Just today was the lucky day when my HomePod arrived! As I already told some weeks ago, here, I ordered a brand new, not (yet) in Germany available HomePod from the UK. So now it was delivered today and I drove home in school break to get the package. It was delivered to my secret location because no-one was at home and I took it with me to school, where I unboxed it while my maths-class (yes while, and it was in the server-room, together with two teachers who are Apple Fans as me xD).
Now after I set it up and used it for the whole day since I’m home I want to give you my first impressions and kind of a little review.
I expected quite much from it because almost every review said it is the greatest sounding smart-speaker (which it is, for sure) and probably even better than a stereo system (which it sadly isn’t for me, at least if you configured this the right way). Nevertheless it sounds great and will probably become my most used (home) speaker what was my stereo and my Beats Pill⁺ until now. Especially for the size it produces an incredible sound, far better and way more balanced than my Pill⁺. If you turn it all the way up it is reeeeeally loud, believe me! And still then it sounds great, no sort of distortion or other strange noises, it’s unbelievable! The sound is great balanced and if it’s well placed (on a good foundation) it neither has too much bass nor too much highs. The best foundation I think is the iPad leather smart-cover-case-combination xD but wooden tables sound great too :’D
The HomePod has a great subwoofer and the bass is rich, it goes to really low frequencies, at least I thought it did so, but I’m not a frequency-meter so don’t blame me if it’s not true :O also the highs are nice, they fit perfectly to the rich bass and aren’t crying or hold back! It’s a rich sound at all and I’m satisfied with it!
The next incredibly useful feature is the HomeKit integration (probably one of the main reasons for me to buy it, apart from the situation it’s the only smart speaker with native Apple Music integration). I can call “Hey Siri, turn on the lights” while I’m walking up the stairs and when I’m in my room, the lights are on! I don’t need to put out my iPhone or raise my arm for my Apple Watch, which is normally not a problem, but if I take some food or things with me, it can be quite complicated to do this… (and this happens in about 90% of the time I want to turn on my lights).
The HomeHub feature is also incredibly useful, because now I can automate almost everything! I’m coming home – the lights are on, I’m leaving – lights and everything turns off, the humidity is below 50% – air freshener turns on (that air freshener is just a future idea for now, but it will come for sure at some point!).
And last but not least it is an incredibly beautiful design element because it’s simple and discreet but still easy to identify with one look, you know what I mean? It’s. Just. So. Great.
In the next days I’ve planned to make a nice Video about my HomePod, I will also mention this in a post then and probably I can tell you then some more experiences in the daily work with HomePod, but until now, I can just say that I already don’t want to miss it anymore and I can just recommend it to you, if you fit some requirements: You have and use Apple Music, you use HomeKit enabled Devices, you use Siri and don’t mind about the not-yet-available functions of Siri, that Alexa and Google Home may already have and you’re in the Apple Ecosystem with most of your devices. It extends your system incredibly well in a magical and easy way and you will never want to miss it no more ever!
With that ad-sounding (it isn’t!) finishing words I will end my (again) quite long post and wish you a nice night, day, sunrise, sunset or mars rise (hi, I’m crazy) and see you next time c:
Thanks for reading my incredibly stupid thoughts 🙂
